Events > Present centredness - a co-creative perspective

December 18, 2021

Facilitated by Paul Robinson (PTSTA-E) and Traian Bossenmayer (PTSTA-O)

In this session we will explore the CCTA tenet of Present Centeredness.

We spend much of our time repeating unconscious patterns that serve us well most of the time, especially through our day-to-day activities, but when it comes to accounting for our environment from an aware place these useful patterns limits our options and ability to choose the best course of action. This leads, at times, to the false assumption that we are present centered whilst, in fact, the actual percentage of time spent in our Adult is not as extensive as we might imagine. We feel that we are making a conscious choice, but it’s more of a conscious choice to stay within the options limited by the boundaries of our script patterns.

Being truly present centered is about being non-defensive, vulnerable and open to new possibilities that are based on accounting for what’s emerging in the here and now. It might not the best option to keep us safe: it’s about the best option to account for the reality of now, which includes we-ness, expressed through the wider context. We are focusing on the possibilities, not limited by script processes related to our past, or how to keep ourselves “safe” in the future. When we are accounting for our past experiences and considering future possibilities, which are not limited by our unconscious defenses, and choosing what’s most useful in the moment to us (i.e. we), it can be very challenging.

We will explore this process using TA models and processes. The session will be interactive and include breakout groups.
